Service Types define, at the top level, the kind of service that a Client requires and a Caregiver can provide. You would not send a Homemaker to a Client who needs a Licensed Practical Nurse (and vice versa, usually). The Scheduling System allows you to define Service Types exactly as you wish. To manage your list of Service Types, click on File>>Configuration>>Service Types; this opens a list similar to the following.
Figure 233: Service Types
Each Service Type has a Code and a Description. The Code must be unique within the Scheduling System, as it will be used by many Services and Caregivers. To add a Service Type to the list, click on the Add button. You will be prompted for the Code. There is no practical limit to the size of the Code, but it is strongly suggested that you choose a fairly short, easy to identify Code; you can put more detail in the Description field, if you want. After you have entered the Code, the Description field will be activated, ready to accept your typing. Note that the Code cannot be changed after it has been entered, but the Description can be changed at any time. If you have a Service Type that is not in use, or you made a mistake in entering it, you can remove it simply by clicking on the Remove button. Note, however, that the Service Type cannot be removed if it is in use by any Service or Caregiver. Caregiver Service Types You can use Service Types to help define which Services a Caregiver can be assigned to. See the Caregiver Service Types section for more information on setting up and using this feature. Payroll and Billing Service Types also have a role to play in Payroll and Billing. See the section entitled Pay/Bill Codes to find out more about considerations in setting up your Service Types.
