QuickBooks Online Edition |

Most of the basic operations of the Online Edition work as described for the desktop version. However, it is a different program in many respects. While it offers some conveniences, it has some shortcomings compared with its more mature desktop cousin. For example, you cannot make a backup copy of your company file, nor can you revert to an earlier version of the data. If you are not yet using QuickBooks, we recommend that you choose the desktop edition of QuickBooks. If you are already using QuickBooks Online Edition (QBOE) and would like to connect with Rosemark, please review this section carefully, so that you understand the limitations.

Issues with syncing with the QuickBooks Online Edition Here we'll look at the differences you should watch out for when connecting to QBOE from Rosemark.
No Company File Backups In the QuickBooks Online Edition, there is no provision for backing up or reverting to previous data. It is essentially a forward-only process, with no way to return to an earlier state. In our opinion, this is probably the single biggest reason to think twice before using this version of QuickBooks. No Social Security Number syncing QBOE will never let Rosemark read the SSN, nor update it. That means that Rosemark has no way of monitoring whether the two are in sync. Therefore, it does not attempt to do so. Invoice line items Invoice line items don't print in the order shown on the Rosemark invoice. -- They get merged and sorted by their date column, and any 'headers' such as "----- Adjustments: -----" or "----- Mileage: -----" are given today's date, and are sorted on that basis with the rest of the lines. This appears to be a “feature” which compensates for the fact that there is much less control of the construction and layout of invoices in QBOE. Name and Address Fields Details For those who want to delve into the details of how the name and address fields map between QBOE and Rosemark, here are some details for you. The billAddress fields 1 through 5 show up as "Street" onscreen. The "Full Name" becomes the first line of bill address on an invoice, followed by Customer billAddr1, billAddr2, etc. QBOE billAddr1/2 maps to Rosemark Customer address line1/2, as opposed to QuickBooks desktop (QBD) where billAddr2/3 maps to Rosemark Customer address line1/2. ShipAddress (shipAddr1) maps to the Client name (same as QBD). This can have an odd effect on the invoice, as it makes Ship To have Customer name, Client name (which may be the same), street1, etc. You cannot blank out the QB customer billAddress (street) from Rosemark, as it takes it as "no change" instead. The Customer form has Full Name which is broken up into first, middle, last, etc. A single name seems to be taken as firstName. To see what the details really are, the Full Name label is a button that opens up a dialog showing the individual pieces. The Rosemark Employee phone2 field syncs, but doesn't actually appear anywhere in the QBOE user interface, so you can’t see or change it there. Contractors Syncing Contractors is not currently supported in the QuickBooks Online Edition. |
