In this section we'll step through setting up some specific uses of Pay/Bill Rules. For more detail about how they work in general, see the Pay/Bill Rules section.

Long Shifts
Example #1: Short Shifts
Many agencies charge a premium for short shifts because there is so much extra overhead involved. If a client always has short shifts, you can just set the rate and you're done. But what if they have some short shifts and some longer shifts on the same Service? Rather than manually changing the rates on the short shifts, you can setup a Pay/Bill Rule that will do it for you. This example assumes that, for shifts that are 2 hours or less, you charge $4.00 per hour more and pay $2.00 per hour more than usual.
Add the Short Shift Rule
| 1. | From the main Rosemark screen, go to ->->. |
| 3. | Type in a name for the new Rule. |
| 4. | Select in the Type field. |
| 5. | Select a date when the new Rule will take effect. |
| 6. | Click OK and the new Rule will appear in the list. |

Configure the Short Shift Rule
With the new Rule selected, you are ready to set it up.
| 7. | In the Pay section, click on Override to turn it on. |
| 8. | In the Match section, type 2 in the max box (matches 2 hours or less). |
| 9. | In the Effect section, type 2 in the Add box (adds $2.00 to the hourly rate). |
| 10. | In the Bill section, click on Override to turn it on. |
| 11. | In the Match section, type 2 in the max box.(matches 2 hours or less). |
| 12. | In the Effect section, type 4 in the Add box (adds $4.00 to the hourly rate). |
Now if the Shift is 2 hours or less, $2.00 will be added to the hourly Pay Rate and $4.00 will be added to the hourly Bill Rate. If the Shift is longer than 2 hours, the rate will be left alone.

Example #2: Weekend Shifts
Your agency may have pay and/or bill differently for weekend shifts.You can setup a Pay/Bill Rule that will automatically change the rates on such shifts. This example assumes that, for any shifts that occur mostly on a Saturday or Sunday, you will bill and pay time and a half. Variations include the ability to define the shifts as starting on a certain day or any part of the shift falling on a certain day (intersects).
Add the Weekend Rule
| 1. | From the main Rosemark screen, go to ->->. |
| 3. | Type in a name for the new Rule. |
| 4. | Select in the Type field. |
| 5. | Select a date when the new Rule will take effect. |
| 6. | Click OK and the new Rule will appear in the list. |
Configure the Weekend Rule
With the new Rule selected, you are ready to set it up. In this case, the Pay and Bill sections will be exactly the same.
| 1. | Click on Override to turn it on. |
| 2. | In the Day of Week to Match section, select the button and check Sat and Sun. |
| 3. | In the Effect section, type in the Add box (multiplies the hourly rate to get "time and a half"). |
| 4. | Repeat steps 1-3 for the section. |
Now if most of a Shift is on Saturday or Sunday, the hourly Pay and Bill Rates will be multiplied by 1.5. Otherwise, the rate will be left alone.

Example #3: Holidays
A common use of the day of week rule type is to handle holidays. The simplest way to handle a holiday setup is as follows:
| 1. | Setup a Day of Week rule with an effective date on the date of the holiday. |
| 2. | Put in the parameters you want (e.g. time and a half). |
| 3. | Add New Effective Date for the day following the holiday and select Turn Off. That way, the rule will only be in effect on the day of the holiday. |
Example #4: Long Shifts
Depending on State and other regulations, your agency may have to bill and pay overtime for any shifts that are longer than 8 hours. You can setup a Pay/Bill Rule that will automatically change the rates on such shifts. This example assumes that, for any shifts that are 8 hours or more, you will bill and pay time and a half.
Add the Long Shift Rule
| 1. | From the main Rosemark screen, go to ->->. |
| 3. | Type in a name for the new Rule. |
| 4. | Select in the Type field. |
| 5. | Select a date when the new Rule will take effect. |
| 6. | Click OK and the new Rule will appear in the list. |
Configure the Long Shift Rule
With the new Rule selected, you are ready to set it up. In this case, the Pay and Bill sections will be exactly the same.
| 6. | Click on Override to turn it on. |
| 7. | In the Match section, type in the min box (matches 8 hours or more). |
| 8. | In the Effect section, type in the Add box (multiplies the hourly rate to get "time and a half"). |
| 9. | Repeat steps 1-3 for the section. |
Now if the Shift is 8 hours or more, the hourly Pay and Bill Rates will be multiplied by 1.5. If the Shift is shorter than 8 hours, the rate will be left alone.
