Importing Skills

Previous   Top Next

You can speed up the initial setup of Skills and Categories by importing them from a tab-delimited text file. An example file is included in the Rosemark installation folder (typically c:\Program Files\Shoshana) called example skills.txt. The format of this file is simple: each skill or Category is on a line of its own; top-level Categories are not indented at all; Subcategories are indented one tab to the right of their parent Category; skills are indented one tab to the right of their parent Category.

A simple way to create a Skills import file of your own is to simply open the example file, save it with a new name, then edit it as you like.

You can safely import on top of existing skills: it will not double anything, it will simply add any Skills or Categories that are not already present.

Caution: It's a good idea to be sure of what you are importing before proceeding. There is not a fast way for you to clear all imported Skills - you have to delete them one at a time. If you do accidentally import way more than you want, just call us and we can "clear the decks" for you.

To import a set of Skills, from the Skills Configuration screen, click File, then Import File. By default, it will go to the Rosemark installation folder, which has the example skills file. If you have one of your own, just navigate to the folder where that file is located, select the file and click Open. The dialog box will inform you of how many Skills and how many Categories will be added, as well as how many duplicates of each (if this is a re-import) and give you a chance to cancel or proceed with the import.
