Adjusting Times on a Shift

Previous   Top Next

You can change the Start time, End time or duration of an individual shift directly on the Shift form. This is handy for making one-time modifications to the schedule, or adjusting things to match what REALLY happened. To do so, simply select the Start time, End time or Duration and adjust it as needed. Note that changing the duration (Hours) adjusts the End time accordingly.

When you have the times as you want them, click on Apply. You will see that the Shift on the Planner now matches your change.

For example, lets say you wanted to change the Shift shown here to go from 11:00 am to 5:30 pm. There are many ways to alter the time:

use the arrow keys to move the cursor, the Delete and Backspace keys to remove numbers
double-click within “8:00am” to highlight the whole time, then type in the new
use the Tab key to move between fields, which selects the entire contents of the field.

However you go about it, type in “11a” or “11:00 am”. Youll immediately see the duration field on the right (“Hours”) reflect the change. Do the same with the End time, changing it to “5:30 pm”, and click OK.

You may also adjust the End time by changing the duration of the Shift. Simply type in the desired duration in the “Hours” field. As you type, youll immediately see the End time change accordingly.

When times are changed on an Open or Tentatively Assigned shift, the times of all corresponding Open and Tentatively Assigned shifts are adjusted as well. For example, if you have 3 Caregivers Tentatively Assigned on one Open Shift, adjusting the time of one of them will adjust the others in the same way. This is because they all represent the same underlying Shift that needs assignment.

There are some limits on how you can adjust the times. The resulting duration must be greater than zero (when youre finished adjusting Start, End and Duration). Youll notice that the Apply button is only available when you have acceptable values in all the fields.

Assigned Shifts cannot overlap (for the same Caregiver). If adjusting the times will make the Shift conflict with an existing one, you will get an error message. If adjusting the times causes a conflict with a Tentatively Assigned Shift, the TA Shift will be removed.

Rosemark strives to keep the resulting Shift in the same day as it started. Therefore, you are limited to changing the time by no more than 12 hours at a time (or 6, if you dont explicitly put an “AM” or “PM” in it. The purpose is to adjust the times of a Shift, not to move it to another day.

Sometimes it's easiest just to remove the old Shift and put in a new one that you want. To find out how to remove a shift, see the section Removing a Shift.
